Vibrant and Bold Colors

First up, let’s talk about colors. This year, it’s all about embracing bold, vibrant hues that pack a punch. Say goodbye to boring beige and hello to rich, jewel-toned shades like emerald green, sapphire blue, and amethyst purple. Not ready to commit to an entire room? No problem! Start small by adding pops of color through accent walls, throw pillows, or statement furniture pieces.

Curved Lines and Organic Shapes

Speaking of furniture, curved lines and organic shapes are having a major moment. Look for pieces with soft, fluid lines that create a sense of movement and flow. From sculptural sofas to rounded coffee tables, these pieces add a touch of elegance and sophistication to any space.

A fresh coat of paint can work wonders in transforming a room, and this year, it’s all about embracing bold, statement-making hues. Whether you opt for a rich, moody color or a bright, energetic shade, a well-executed paint job can instantly elevate your space.

Sustainable and Eco-friendly Materials

Another trend that’s rapidly gaining popularity is the use of sustainable and eco-friendly materials. From reclaimed wood to bamboo and cork, these natural materials not only add warmth and texture to your decor but also help reduce your environmental impact. Plus, they’re incredibly versatile and can be incorporated into everything from furniture to wall coverings and flooring.

Patterned Tiles

Speaking of flooring, let’s talk about the resurgence of patterned tiles. Bold, geometric patterns are making a comeback, and they’re a surefire way to add visual interest and personality to any room. Whether you opt for classic black-and-white tiles or embrace vibrant, colorful designs, patterned tiles are a great way to make a statement.

Inviting Lighting

Now, let’s talk about lighting. This year, it’s all about creating a warm, inviting ambiance with the right lighting fixtures. Look for pieces that combine sleek, modern lines with natural materials like rattan, wicker, or wood. From statement pendants to floor lamps, these pieces not only provide illumination but also serve as beautiful decorative elements in their own right.

Layered Textures

Finally, let’s not forget about the importance of texture. Layering different textures is a great way to add depth and dimension to your space. Even when you have decorated your living room or bedroom impeccably, there still may be certain parts that seem to be slightly odd. And, needless to say, you want to overhype these imperfections for sure.

Without thinking twice, picking eye-catchy wallpapers is the way to go if displaying such abrupt flaws to your invitees is the last thing you want. But the million-dollar question is, how to choose wallpapers smartly and efficiently for your bedroom or living area?

Well, if you are unsure and wondering what to consider when choosing the wallpaper shades, patterns and designs, then we have you covered. Continue reading, as we explore some quick and easy tricks to choose the best wall covering for different spaces of your home.

Tips and Tricks to Choose Wallpapers

Wallpaper is a trending wall decorating material that’s gaining popularity these days. Thanks to technological advancements, today you can easily get tired of looking at different shades, prints, patterns and wallpaper variants.

When there are so many options and wallpaper variants available out there, picking that one perfect wallpaper roll that meets your aesthetics taste and budget can be overwhelming. However, if you have a professional interior designer on board, they can help sort and minimize the options according to your budget. Nevertheless, you can still get it right by following a few simple tricks.

In this context, outlined below are a few easy-breezy tips adhering to which you can choose wallpapers like a pro.

So, let’s dive in.

Go for a captivating mix and match

Just the way a room with a lot of patterns will exude the feel of an overdone space, in case, there is completely no pattern at all, that won’t look good too. So, make sure that you strike that desired balance while picking plaids, floral motifs or stripes, subsequently, converting them into an enviably cool layout. Aside from that, try and retain the same colour theme or else select similar hues, if need be, to get your bedroom or living room a uniform look and feel.

Scale your room with flying colours

Be it small-scale patterns or large-scale motifs, both can do wonders for your living space. Say, for example, to make a vacant room appear well-decorated and furnished, going for large-scale patterns teamed up with vibrant backgrounds and colours would do good.

Similarly, small-scale patterns aim to create a spacious vibe in case you have a tiny resting haven. However, you can give a whirl to a trellis design also if getting your flat walls an in-depth look and feel is what you are up to.

Accentuate as aesthetically as possible

No matter whether you are buying wallpapers for your living room or boudoir, flamboyant vertical patterns that include stripes as well can get your refuge a formal, regal yet vivacious touch and it’s no wonder.

In this context, it is pertinent to mention that horizontal motifs that are adequately wide will make even a diminutive room appear larger. On the other end, vertical patterns, particularly that of florals wherein the shape of the design either resembles a U or a V can get any ceiling a broader look and feel than it actually is.

Zero in on a spectacular style

Taking the style of your wallpapers into consideration is imperative when purchasing these elements for your bedroom or living room. In case a formal look is more your thing, make sure you get your hands on large-scale patterns teamed up with exuberant colour options.

Conversely, if you are contemplating a bright yet fun style, then zeroing in on small motifs that remain wide open and are spaced regularly will satiate your desire, Polka Dots being the most ideal variant.

However, amidst all this, give a thought to the aesthetic impact of borders for sure. Not only you will get them in a plethora of styles and motifs ranging from wildlife images, and pastoral views to the scenes of that sport, but borders also have the ability to incorporate spectacular themes within any given space that too in no time.

Try and hide the faults texturally

Tired of seeing the incessant flaws on your walls as well as the obnoxious impression your room décors are exuding? If you say yes, then motifs integrated with perceived or real textures can camouflage or hide these imperfections in the smartest way possible.

Try and hide the faults texturally

So, make sure you go for patterns having actual tactile surfaces including string and grass cloth, fabric, expanded vinyl, foil and even burlap. Apart from that, there are a few other designs also that resemble components like leather, wood, marble and not to mention animal skins too.

In this context, choosing a layered pattern can be a good idea as it creates the illusion of a texture, primarily in the form of a floral motif led by a monochromatic damask design. Sounds interesting, right?

Play with lights

Do you have a gloomy hallway, a northern-side room or a space with no windows at all? In case you do, go for wallpapers that would light up your living area or bedroom adequately all through the day.

To the best of suggestions, try and go for motifs having those effervescent or metallic inks or else you can give a whirl to light-coloured patterns also. However, if attaining the maximum amount of light is more your thing then designs with even surfaces will do the good.

So, make sure you keep those textured or dark-coloured patterns at bay as they tend to absorb more light within your bedroom or living room, making the space appear unreasonably compact and scruffy.

Deluge your wall coverings with majestic colours

Colours can really do magic, setting an upbeat mood within any given space. So, to make a room appear warm and inviting, opting for flamboyant shades such as hues of orange, yellow or red would serve you the much-needed purpose.

Likewise, if a bigger-looking ceiling and living area are what you are up to, make sure you opt for cool colour options that can either be violet, blue or green. Always remember, where softer and more subtle shades invigorate serenity and calmness into your resting haven, vibrant colours on the contrary will liven up the same space with a great deal of vivacity and exuberance, and that’s for sure.

Hence, pick a wallcovering range that does complete justice to your tailored tastes and preferences.

How to calculate the number of wallpaper rolls you may need?

Don’t know how to select the desired number of wallcovering rolls when thinking of decorating your living room or bedroom with them? Here are a few tips for you to get it right.

Measure the wall space in square feet

Measure the wall of the concerned area starting from the floor to the ceiling while also not leaving a single nook and cranny of it. Now multiply the two figures that you have got consequently. Meanwhile, calculate the size of the remaining walls too as you finally add the totals to each other.

Gauge the width and length of the ceiling

In case you are covering the ceiling of your room, make sure you multiply the width of the floor by its length in order to calculate the square footage of the ceiling. However, usually, the wallpaper works well on straight walls in bedrooms, living rooms, walkways or other such spaces.

Divide each of the figures by 25

To get an idea of the average square footage, dividing each of the figures by 25 is imperative. And doing it in a conventional single roll of wallpaper would lead to a prim-and-proper calculation.

Now subtract the total figure-half single roll for every door and window

This includes the resultant figure that helps you decide on the actual number of rolls required. So, make sure that you go for round fractions only pertinent to the next greatest whole number. But, if your wallcoverings are double-rolled as the case with the conventional wallpapers, consider dividing the outcome by 2 and you are all good to go.

Time to implement a jaw-dropping wallpaper décor!

It may sound a bit quirky, but awe-inspiring wallpapers can supersede any other home-décor ideas, irrespective of the dimension of your living room or bedroom. So, to get your living space a phenomenal look and feel this time, do embellish it with a series of scintillating wallcoverings and be assured that your near and dear ones can’t stop appreciating your sense of aesthetics and it’s a sure thing.

Small rooms don’t have to be bothersome always. If organized and decorated well, even a compact room can look bigger and that’s no wonder. You simply have to put in a little effort and use your grey matter a bit meticulously.

So, whether it’s the living room wall color combination or the furnishings inside there, everything has to be arranged keeping the space factor in mind. However, putting it into action is easier said than done!

All said, here are some tips and tactics implementing which will let you make your small living rooms appear larger.

Paint the decors and furnishings for a more cohesive look

Colors have the power to transform any space remarkably. In case, you find the hues of your furnishings a bit bland, think, rethink and consider painting them once again.

Suppose, your small living room has a fireplace in it colored in vibrant orange. Rest assured that it won’t stand out from any angle of your living space.

To make it look bright and eye-soothing, you can paint it in limewash and see how drastically the appearance of your room changes. More importantly, your living space will look way bigger than before. Ain’t that amazing?

Focus more on the ease of movement

This one trick is surely going to work to make your living room look bigger and better. Gone are those days when gigantic furniture was the trend. Now, we all reside in small and compact spaces.

So, if you feel that such stuffs are unnecessarily occupying your space, consider replacing them with smaller and more portable pieces.

Also, eliminate any other redundant elements that are making it difficult for you to walk around comfortably. Doing so will not only make your tiny room seem larger and aligned but will also enhance its aesthetic factor.

Place a statement plant and see the magic

Implementing this pointer can be a million-dollar hack to liven your space up. We all know that plants come in various colors and shapes.

Place a statement plant and see the magic

So, when you place them inside your living room, the entire surrounding will look a lot more lively and not to mention more spacious.

Here you can consider adding a statement plant since it is more compelling than any other florae to leave your guests speechless.

Indoor plants have this peculiar charm in them due to their exceptionally tall sizes. This often compels us to look up above for seeing the trees, making our living space seem much taller than it really is.

Make a conscious choice with flooring and wall paint

Just think for once which areas of your living room occupy the most of it. Yes, you are right, its walls and floors.

So, you need to get them proper before they make your space look unreasonably small and compact.

Well, in the case of flooring, you can always go for lighter tones, unlike the darker ones. The main reason is that, lighter hues often make a living room more spacious as compared to the more vibrant colors.

Say, for example, you’ve got dark brown flooring that you can choose to repaint with a light yellow shade. In return, you can expect your space to look way brighter and bigger for sure.

Medium-toned wooden floors are even better options for those who wish to hide the dust of their flooring to perfection.

As far as walls are concerned, ceilings must be factored in while refinishing them. In fact, ceilings are also regarded as the fifth wall inside a room.

So, it’s feasible if the walls and ceilings of your room are of the same color.

This is because the lighter the tone of ceilings the taller they will look than their actual size.

As a result, your living room will also look way more spacious than before. In case, you have that conventional eight feet ceiling, then this tip would be worth implementing.

Paint everything white

White is undoubtedly the best color of all. It sort of has that nowhere appeal in it as if nothing exists.

Paint everything white

So, quite naturally, when your whole living room is painted in this hue, everything will look aligned to each other without any boundaries distinguishing them.

In fact, a white-colored room looks way more serene and airy, calmer, brighter, and lighter as compared to any other area.

Also, the moment you enter a space like that, your eyes will automatically travel up, meaning the ceiling will seem much higher than expected.

Particularly, white is an outstanding option for individuals with exceptionally small rooms that are dreadfully cluttered too. White reduces that overstuffed feel of any space and focuses more on its aesthetics.

This is one fine reason for which most architects find white their favorite color option. You too will fall for it once you have painted every nook and cranny of your room with this amazing shade.

Make sure the sizes of your furnishings vary from each other

Wish to make your living space brighter and bigger at the same time? Then, this trick is surely going to work for you.

Generally, a lot of people make the mistake of having either small or large furnishings. This can make even a large room appear quite stiff and compact.

So, when you look around your space, you often get this illusion as if the entire room is dull and less spacious.

To get rid of this hassle, make sure that your decor is a perfect combination of furniture having various shapes and sizes. Doing so, will not only brighten the area up but will also enhance its overall beauty like anything.

Pay special attention to the colors of your furnishings. In case, you have a navy blue sofa or a pitch-black cupboard; consider repainting them with lighter tones.

Remove them elsewhere if possible or paste eye-soothing wall hangings on the surface to add that oomph factor to your living room.

Get your living space more captivating!

Get your living space more captivating

With a little bit of intelligence and mindful effort, we all can devise an enviably cool yet spacious living room for us. Consider implementing the tips and hacks discussed above to make your space bigger, brighter, and smarter.

Are you planning to design and decorate your home or office? If yes, then you are most likely going to work with an interior designer near you. Interior designers have amazing skills to transform any space. Whether it’s a home, office, shop, restaurant or any other space, the designers can quickly figure out what can be done to make the space look more functional and esthetically pleasing.

Designing and decorating a home can be fun when you have a professional interior designer by your side. They can design the space as per your need, space requirements, design preference and budget. However, to get the best value while working with an interior designer, they expect you to know certain things before starting the project.

So, before you get started with your interior designing project, you should prepare yourself well to get the most out of this collaboration.

Here are the 15 essential things you should know about working with an interior designer in India or around the world.

1. Spare time for meetings with the designer

While it’s true that the interior designer knows way more than a normal homeowner, you should spare time for meeting with them. In fact, it takes multiple meetings to brainstorm space layout ideas, design concepts, scope of work, interior design budget and project timeline. So be ready to engage well with interior designers to get the maximum value out of their design skills and experiences.

2. Share your inputs and ideas

Interior designers have a lot of knowledge and experience designing homes and spaces. However, for them, every design project is unique and requires a different approach and thought process. Help them design your home better by sharing your requirements, vision and ideas. No matter what, don’t shy away from sharing your vision, ideas and design styles and inspirations. Be it a cutting from the magazine, a bed head design, or the internal structure of the wardrobe; share it all with your interior designer.

3. Get inspired but take advice from your designer

It’s always a great idea to draw design inspiration from different sources. However, be flexible to take the words of the interior designer you are working with. You have hired an interior designer for their expertise and it’s not fun to not hear them. It’s normal for a homeowner to get carried away with certain designs. However, don’t forget that the design you are drawing your inspiration from may not work in a smaller space or room like yours. So, if the design team is suggesting something, then hear them out. After all, they also want to design a beautiful space for you. And if they are objecting to something, they must have a solid reason for that.

4. Brainstorm multiple design ideas

One of the biggest advantages of working with a professional interior designer is that they can help visualize your space in multiple ways. Before they get to the actual execution work, they will brainstorm multiple layouts and design ideas. So, spend a good amount of time analyzing those concepts. Don’t hesitate to share feedback, changes and enhancements as you may feel. This helps you as well as the interior designer to get the space designed your way.

5. Define a detailed scope of work

An interior design project may involve several tasks like false ceiling, plumbing, electrical alterations, installations and fixings, paint, wallpaper, civil work and so on. Each of these tasks has different implications for the overall delivery timeline and project cost. And a well-defined scope of work, material specifications, costs and expenses can save a lot of confusion and disputes.

6. Know that it’s a teamwork

Designing beautiful homes and spaces is not easy. It requires a lot of planning, preparation and solid execution to make a space functional and look good. Although the interior designers will take the lead, you should engage with them, and share your inputs, ideas, enhancements etc. This is teamwork, so work with your designer as a team member to get the maximum value.

7. Things may go wrong

As you already know that there will be multiple teams and contractors or subcontractors working on your home or office interior design projects, and sometimes things may go wrong. However, the good news is that there is nothing that can’t be fixed. So, be a little practical and accept that everything may not go as expected, and there may be glitches and errors here and there which can definitely be fixed and sorted.

8. Trust your interior designer

Before starting an interior design project, it’s important for you to trust the expert interior designer you have chosen to work with. While brainstorming design concepts and ideas, interior designers put in a lot of effort and time. They consider many things including quality and costs before suggesting something. So trust them for their knowledge and expertise. However, if there’s anything that you are unsure about, just let them know so that they can explain and convince you.

9. Be flexible with budget

No amount of project planning can ensure that there will be no change during the execution. Irrespective of the number of site visits and detailed drawings, sometimes you as a client may like to change something. Sometimes, it could be the change of size for a unit, sometimes a change in material, colour or something else. Some of these changes may have implications on delivery time and project budget. So be willing to discuss, understand and negotiate and conclude the price and timeline for such ongoing changes that may come during the execution.

10. Leave the space empty

The interior designer crew requires space to work efficiently and peacefully. If it’s a new and empty flat, then the team can work efficiently. However, if you are renovating a house then it would be better to empty the house and give it to them for 6-8 weeks. It’ll help the interior design team work efficiently and complete the project on time.

11. Use the resource of interior designers

If you are working with an interior designer, then it’s better to use their vast network of suppliers, dealers and value-added service providers sub-contractors) for any such job. For instance, you may like to get the anti-termite treatment done before starting the work. In such cases do check with your interior designer if they have any preferred vendor.  Usually, it costs less and you can also compare prices from your own vendor, and then take a call on hiring. It’s better to hire subcontractors through your interior designer; they have a strong network of highly vetted and recommended people in the trade.

12. Engage well with the interior design team

Sometimes the homeowners don’t get engaged during the execution. However, you should spare time to engage with your interior design team. There are many decisions where your involvement may be vital. From smaller enhancements to minor alterations here and there, choosing the colour of fabric to select the chandeliers, your engagement can be vital for the successful completion of the project.

13. Cooperate with the execution team

During the project execution, the interior design crew members may need your help and assistance. Sometimes, society won’t allow them without your permission. At other times, they need your consent. In some situations, they need you to procure something that needs installation and only then they will be able to carry out their work. For instance, if you are planning to install a home theatre system, then you have to call the supplier to inspect the site and instruct about the wiring. Only then, the false ceiling guys can complete their work. Similarly, if you want cable based home automation system installed, the supplier needs to visit the site and advice on wiring. There can be many such cases. So, try to be available as and when they need your help.

14. Have patience

Executing an interior design project can take weeks. It may involve multiple contractors, subcontractors, suppliers and vendors. Sometimes, things may not work for some technical reasons. At other times, there will be delays due to the unavailability of some materials. But, that’s natural and you can’t have control over everything. Consider this as part of the project execution process. So, instead of getting irritated and overwhelmed, have patience as that’s the best way to get things done smoothly.

15. Enjoy the interior design and build process

While working with an interior designer, it’s important for you as the owner to enjoy the process. After all, they are working hard and doing everything to ensure you get the best out of this interior design project. So collaborate well, have fun and enjoy the process while your home or office is being designed and decorated by them.

Conclusion – working with an interior designer

Working with an interior designer can be fun when you know certain things upfront. Be it design ideas, finalizing the scope of work, material specification or setting up the budget, the interior designers can help you get it all right. However, that requires working as a team and collaborating with an open mind. We have managed hundreds of interior design and execution projects and I can tell you we want our customers to do certain things that I have already discussed above.

2022 has come with unique interior design styles to make you fall in love with your space. It’s all about including only what you need so that you have enough room to move around while still accessing everything you need. The ideas are many, so even a fussy homeowner would find something to impress them. Here are the best interior design styles to consider in 2022.

1. Industrial Interior Design Style

If you’re looking for a very masculine space, the industrial design style is perfect. It has exposed beams and posts made of iron or wood. A mix of metal, steel, polished concrete, and brick makes this interior design style very modern. The best part about the industrial interior design styles is that they allow you to play around with various textures and colors. For example, if you want a warm and homely feel, go for warm browns and beiges. If you prefer something more modern that projects strength and power, choose metallic shades like silver grey or pewter.

As far as furniture is concerned, industrial interior design styles are all about contrasts. Add a vintage piece next to something ultra-modern. For example, put a geometric sofa up against a rustic fireplace or place a sleek dining table against a distressed wall for a very dramatic look.

For industrial interior design styles, think of going black and white with splashes of color in the form of pillows and throws to add that extra spark.

Industrial interior design styles are all about contrast and striking balance. A mix of vintage and ultra-modern furniture goes a long way in creating the right atmosphere.

2. Traditional Style

Traditional interior design has been around for many years and is mostly inspired by old-school European styles during the 18th and 19th centuries. If you want to give your home an older feel, this is a great design style to consider.

Many people who choose this style for their homes really enjoy decor that has great historical meaning behind it. People who tend to choose this style also include a lot of pieces throughout the home such as art, antiques, and symmetrical objects that represent the European time period.

Some of the elements of this design style include European decor, dark wood paneling, dark wood flooring, silks, velvets, and antique furniture and paintings. This style is really all about architecture.

3. Mid Century Modern Style

The 1950s and 1960s inspire this type of interior design style, but its popularity continues into current times. If you wish to give your house a retro feel, this is one of the best interior design styles to consider.

The interiors are usually symmetrical with clean lines and minimalistic décor. This means fewer things are competing for attention in this design style, making it look more significant than what it is. The center of attraction here is furniture like cabinets, tables, and chairs. For example, if you have a sleek sideboard or bedside table that is unique, then it’s the perfect candidate for this interior design style. Just make sure it looks good in any space you choose to display it.

Attractive light fixtures are another way to add character to this design style. So if you have a unique light fixture, consider placing it in this interior design style.

Just do away with everything that looks too fussy and place only the bare essentials. The simpler it gets, the better it appears. So choose pieces that are sleek and long for a more significant impact. Furniture with tapered legs is also a great way to add to this design style.

When you’re choosing colors for mid-century modern interior design styles, make sure they are light and neutral. This makes your space feel more spacious while allowing the furniture pieces to stand out in full glory.

You can keep accessories minimal or go all out with vibrant colors for added drama.

4. Rustic Interior Design Style

When you talk about this interior design style most people will think of things like a rustic farmhouse, which is a great example of this particular style. If you are an individual who likes their home to have more of a natural feel or look to it and you are an individual who likes having accessories around your home that are from outdoors, this would be a great design style to try out.

Rustic Interior Design Style

Rustic interiors often include lots of different colors of stone or wood and are often really raw, natural, and sometimes have more of an unfinished look. There is also a lot of earthy touches that are placed around the home with this style as well.

Some important design elements to make sure that you include if you are considering this style are wood floors, wood fireplaces, handmade decor, stone, and open ceiling beams.

5. Beach Style

If you love being at the beach or near the water but can not be all the time because you might live in the suburbs, bringing a beach or nautical style design to your home is a great option to consider. Even though most people advise beach style to only be used in beach homes, you can really get away with it in a regular neighborhood home too.

If you are considering this style, make sure that when picking out decor and colors, you make the interior warm and relaxing. You want your visitors and even yourself to feel like you are in a beach home or at the beach whenever someone enters your home. There are a lot of decor pieces that you can include to fulfill this design style such as seashells, sand, anchors, ships, and boats. Anything beach-related would be great to include to make this design style come to life.

Some important design elements to make sure that you include also are light colors, such as navy, and white, wicker decor and furniture pieces, natural oak, linen fabrics, and different hues of blue.

6. Eclectic Style

The concept behind this interior design style is to mix things up, so use pieces from various time periods and don’t be afraid to include different colors within your home too. It’s a perfect choice if you’re an avid collector who has a collection that spans several decades. You can even bring in furniture or accessories that you’ve collected on your travels.

Eclectic interior design styles let you play around with textures and colors in vintage chairs side by side with modern sofas. The idea is to mix and match without worrying about clashing colors. It’s all about having fun when working towards achieving this design style.

For the walls, you can opt for a bright color like red to add some zest or go neutral and keep embellishments to a minimum. This design style is highly versatile, thanks to the numerous materials you get to choose from, such as glass, fabric, and wood.

Conclusion

Mid-century modern and eclectic interior design styles are great examples of the perfect balance between masculine and feminine elements if you need that balance within your home. So choose your favorite approach when doing up your interiors. If you love simplicity, then mid-century modern is just what you need.

Personalizing and decorating a bigger bedroom is much easier. When you have a bigger space, you can try and experiment with different design elements to match your personality and still get that luxurious and spacious look. However, when you have to personalize and decorate your small bedroom, you have to be very careful with what design elements you are considering. For instance, you can’t afford to add a lot of furniture, because of the limited space. And that’s why, customizing and personalizing a smaller bedroom often gets challenging. Luckily, there are smaller design tweaks that can still be made while customizing and decorating your space to reflect your personality.

Today in this post, I am sharing some simple bedroom design tips and ideas that will help you to Personalize and decorate your small bedroom easily on a budget.

Best ways to decorate and personalize your small bedroom

Although high-end luxurious apartment complexes offer bigger bedrooms and space, most of the economy range flats and apartments have smaller bedrooms. Needless to say, you can’t just go wrong while decorating and furnishing your flat. Buying big-size furniture, luxurious armchairs, installing open storage cabinets etc can ruin the overall ambience and functionality of your small bedroom. There is a fine line between a well-decorated bedroom and an overstuffed space, and the trick is to not cross that line.

Even though your bedroom is your very personal space, it must reflect who you are. The colours of the curtains and linen, the design and size of your bedroom furniture, and a small personal nook can all enhance the functionality and show who you are.

However, when you are personalizing and furnishing a small bedroom, you have to be very choosy about each of these elements. While the elements must fit your personality and enhance the functionality of the space, they should also be easy to implement and cost-effective.

So, here’s how you can personalize and decorate your small bedroom that will reflect your personality. Check out these simple and easy-to-implement steps below and get ready to be surprised by the end results.

Add a mirror

Glass and mirrors are extensively used these days, especially to decorate small spaces. By combining glass as a design element, you can easily create an illusion of a bigger space. The best place to add a mirror in a smaller bedroom can be the cupboard doors.

When your bedroom is smaller in size, you have to be very careful in designing the furniture. And what can be better than a sliding cupboard door? While the slide doors help save a lot of space, when you add a full-size mirror to the doors, it looks amazingly beautiful. By putting a mirror on the cupboard door, you can enhance the overall appearance and easily create an illusion of a larger space.

Plants and greeneries

While personalizing and furnishing your bedroom, consider making space for some living house plants. Plants and greeneries can say a lot about your personality. Also, plants are the best cost-effective décor elements that do require a lot of space but can enhance the space beautifully. You don’t have to put a lot of potted plants to create greeneries. Just a couple of nicely picked plants that will go well in your bedroom should be good enough.

Plants and greeneries

However, remember to not use artificial plants. Choose live potted plant(s) preferably succulent plants, which suit your personality. Adding plants that do not require much care can be the best way to personalize and decorate a small bedroom.

Add a carpet or rug

Apart from pleasing your feet, rugs and carpets can transform almost any space, including your bedroom. Rugs are available in various design patterns at different price ranges. You can choose and order a rug that fits your budget and matches with the overall bedroom design theme. By adding your favourite rug or carpet, you can easily add a different personality to your bedroom.

Add hanging selves

Bedside tables are a must-have feature for any bedroom, big or small. However, if there is limited space in your smaller bedroom, you can easily replace the bedside table with a hanging one. While there are many design options available today that you can choose and order from, you can also order a customized hanging self for your bedroom. Besides being cost-effective, hanging yourself does not take up a lot of floor space and can really go well with smaller bedrooms.

Make an accent wall

A small accent wall can help transform your small bedroom. Painting the wall can be the most cost-effective and faster way to personalize your bedroom to match your personality. And if you like doing it yourself, you can even try painting the wall yourself.

The second alternative to painting your wall can be to use the wallpaper. There are so many options and cheaper options of wallpapers are available today that you can easily pick and install one without much effort.

Paintings and photos

Using good quality painting or photo frames you can give a different dimension to your bedroom personalization and decoration. While a good and famous painting can be costly, you can even consider cost-effective alternatives options. Properly framed, painting and photo frames can be hung on one of the walls of your bedroom.

Paintings and photos

If you are creating an accent wall, then instead of spending money on costly wall décor elements, you can opt for paintings and photo frames of your choice. There are plenty of options and depending on your personality type, you can choose what works well for you.

Make use of lights

Proper lighting can be crucial to any space. But, when it comes to your bedroom, you can make good use of lights to make your bedroom look cozy and romantic. Small tiny lights are available in various forms and designs these days. You can mix and match these tiny lights of different colors to decorate your small bedroom. These lights are great and can help create a cozy and romantic bedroom, even when it’s a small bedroom.

Use vertical blinds

Covering the window of your bedroom with the blinds and curtains is a must do thing while personalizing any space. Besides, the bedroom is your private space and therefore the window needs to be covered well. While you are furnishing your small bedroom, instead of using the full window curtains, you may like to go with vertical blinds. Firstly, it won’t take any other space, and secondly, it offers you the flexibility to allow lights when needed. And you can put the blinds down when you need privacy at night. Also, the vertical window blinds offer you the opportunity to add colors to your room that can help enhance overall looks and aesthetics.

Colorful pillows

When it comes to personalizing and decorating a bedroom, your bed, bed cover and pillow can help customize your space greatly. The look of your bedroom can seriously be transformed with the right combination. Also, you are going to need them all so why not choose something that goes well with your personality. And, there are plenty of designs and cover patterns that you can try for yourself when choosing the pillow and cushion covers.

Colorful pillows

 Over to you

When it comes to decorating a small bedroom, you have to be very careful in choosing each and every element. For instance, when you are already short of space, you can’t pick wrong size bedroom furniture randomly. By doing so, you may compromise with the functionality and aesthetics of your small bedroom.

However, when done right, a small bedroom can also be decorated and furnished nicely. I have already shared some of the quick and simple bedroom personalization tips and hacks that can help you get it right.

Try some of these tricks and let me know how it works for you.

Happy decorating!!

When used strategically, the furniture can transform the look and boost the efficiency of any space. It’s one of those elements that bring every element together.  And thus, helps you live or work more efficiently and comfortably. While designing a home or office, the best bet is to get the custom made furniture as per your requirement. However, purchasing used or second hand home or office furniture is the second best option that can be considered. One of the key benefits of buying used furniture is that it’s available at cheaper rates and thus helps save money. Secondly, the furniture can easily be refinished as per the interior theme of the space.

However, wrongly chosen furniture can ruin the efficiency and aesthetics of any space. Unfortunately, once purchased, you can’t really replace the furniture without using it for a few years. And therefore, it is seriously important to be very careful while selecting used furniture for purchasing.

If you are considering buying used home or office furniture then I have got you covered. Today in this post I am sharing a few of the best tips for buying used furniture that will help you get the most of your furniture purchase.

Tips for buying used home or office furniture

Whether it’s your home or office, the furniture will occupy the most of the available space. While decorating your space, every piece of furniture can be custom made as per use and space layout. However, when you are buying used and second hand furniture for home or office, you have to be very careful. If you end up picking the furniture randomly without considering the other aspects of it, you may regret your decision.

You may like to consider these tips to avoid any mistake while buying used furniture, and to maximize the value of your purchase.

Measure the space

As you have decided to buy second hand furniture, it’s important for you to measure your home, office or the space where the furniture will be placed. For instance, if you are buying a desk for your office cabin, then check the layout and availability of space. This will help you choose the right size furniture that will go well and does not obstruct your movement.

Similarly if you are buying for your living room, make sure to check the layout and the size.

This may seem like a no-brainer. But, we often ignore this simple step and assume that the furniture will fit the space well. As they say, it’s better to be safe than sorry. The furniture should not restrict the movement or compromise efficiency, and therefore measuring the space is the first step of buying used furniture.

Buy from individuals

If you are planning to buy second hand furniture, you can buy from the second hand furniture shops near you. Or, you can buy used furniture from individuals moving out of town or just upgrading or downsizing their home or office. Although there may be advantages and disadvantages of both, buying from individuals can help save money. Families who are relocating or upgrading or downsizing their homes want to sell it off desperately and therefore can offer better rates than a used furniture shop.

Choose right size furniture

While buying used furniture for your home or office, you must consider its size and dimension. Buying bigger or too smaller furniture can ruin both aesthetics and functionality of the space. So, it’ll be wise to measure the space where you plan to keep the furniture. If the piece of furniture fits well and serves the purpose, then it’s a good match. Otherwise, look for another piece. The furniture should not be too big or too small. Otherwise, it may compromise the usability and functionality of the space.

Design and style

Although there is no right or wrong design and style, the furniture should go well with the space. Design may be an individual choice. But still, you should not compromise with the basic look and feel of the space. So, irrespective of whether you are buying second hand furniture for your home or office, opt for one that goes well with the overall design of your space. The furniture should bring everything together and there it must complement the existing design theme. Ideally, you should buy the furniture after planning everything well in advance. However, if you are buying the furniture first and then you plan to design the space, then think well and then take a call.

Mix and match

If you are purchasing second hand furniture from individuals, then you may end up buying from different individuals and families. Obviously, there will be different designs and styles at offer and you may wonder how to get it right. But mix and match furniture style is gaining popularity these days and works really well. So think creatively and ensure that design and style of the furniture will go well with the space.

Try it out before buying

There is no doubt that the internet has changed the way we buy and sell stuff for our homes. From clothes, books, foods and groceries to furniture, we purchase it all online. However, when you are buying used furniture, you should consider trying it out. I understand it may not be possible every time. But when possible, you must try it out, inspect and check everything before doing the deal. After all, you don’t want to end up paying more for the furniture that may require immediate fixing and repairing. And if you buy such a piece, then you must know about it before buying.

Refurbishing costs

We often forget the additional expenses like refurbishing or restoration costs while buying second hand furniture. However, these expenses can be really high and therefore you must consider it before choosing and buying the used furniture. One of the easiest ways to find out the refurbishing costs and expenses is to take the photograph, share with a handyman or the technician you already know and get some idea of the costs. Now that you know the refurbishing costs, you can make more sensible decisions, especially on purchase price.

Upholstery and refinish

I have seen people leave a good deal because of the bad upholstery, scratches and minor damages. Remember, if you are getting the right furniture at throw away price, it may be a good decision to consider. You can buy it cheap, and get it refinished to make it look like new. For instance if you like a pair of classic metal outdoor chairs that require refinishing, then you should consider buying it. Especially, if you are getting it at a much cheaper rates.

Consider safety

When you want to purchase second hand furniture for your office or home then you must consider the safety. For instance, if there are kids at home, you must avoid furniture with sharp edges. However, if you like something and it has a sharp edge, then consider applying edge softener that hides the edges. So all I am trying to say is whatever you decide, you must consider safety and it must be a conscious decision.

Concluding – tips for buying used furniture

Right size and type of furniture can transform any space. It also makes living and working much more comfortable and enjoyable. You should be a little careful while purchasing second hand furniture. Because buying used furniture requires proper planning, including the costs of refurbishing and upgrading the upholstery etc. There are so many things to consider. I have already shared a few of the best tips and hacks that can help you get the most value out of your home or office furniture shopping. You may like to try these hacks and let me know how it helped you in buying used furniture.

What else do you think one should consider at the time of buying used home or office furniture? Share your tricks and hacks by commenting below.

Calculating the home interior design expenses and budget can be puzzling and often challenging for most of the homeowners. It’s challenging, because you may not be aware of all the nitty-gritty of the interior designing process, and associated expenses. However, establishing a budget for your home interior design or renovation project is super important. In fact, this is the first and the most important step in getting your design or renovation project completed without breaking your bank account. With a rightly calculated interior design expenses and budget, you can plan and complete your project much realistically and efficiently.

If you are planning to design, decorate or renovate your existing home, and you are unsure about how to calculate interior design budget and expenses, then I have got you covered. Today in this post, I am sharing everything you need to know about calculating the design costs and expenses for your home or an office interior design project.

How to make a realistic preliminary home interior design budget

By preparing an initial budget for the interior design project, you can get your priorities as well as project expectations right. It’ll help you choose the best possible raw materials and options. And also help manage all the design execution expenses much efficiently.

As you already know, there are so many options of raw materials from wooden flooring options to tiles and marbles to plywood and laminates, hardware fitting to wallpapers and paints. All of these crucial raw materials are available at various price points. And if you start the project without budgeting for all the expenses, you may end up spending more, delaying the project and in worse case you may not get the kind of finishes you might have got with proper budgeting and expense planning.  However, with proper interior design project budgeting and planning, you can make best use of your money and get the best possible finishes.

Now that you know the importance of interior budget, follow these tips and steps to calculate your home interior design budget and project related expenses correctly.

Every home is different and so are the interior design costs and expenses

Even though you may have the basic idea of what you want, what you do not want, and the kind of finish you want for your home, you may not know how to calculate the expenses and budget. And, there is nothing wrong with it. Even the professional interior designers start with a basic budget. They can figure it out based on their experience and customer profile. And once they have an initial budget, they further go into detail, finalize the scope of work and tweak the budget to make it work for their clients.

We often meet new and aspiring homeowners. Many times, they come to us with proper research and more or less know what they want at the end. Sometimes, they even share a tentative budget. But in most cases, they ask us about the costs and expenses.

But as you know, the interior design costs and expenses can only be calculated when we know

  • The size of the house
  • Scope of work
  • Specification of materials to be used
  • Profile of the family as it helps understand the taste and functional needs

When it comes to home interior designing, there is no one fit all formula to calculate the costs and expenses. As I said, every interior design project is different and so can be the interior design costs and expenses. Interior design budget and costs primarily depend on the size of the space/rooms, brands and quality of materials, types of designs, craftsmanship of the technicians working on the project to name a few factors.

So how do you go about preparing the budget for your project?

Well, as the project is not yet started, you can estimate the expenses in one of the following ways:

  • Based on the value of your house
  • Per sq ft rate of interior designers

Let’s check both of these formulas in detail

Calculate interior design expenses as per value of the house

Did you know that the value of your house can guide you well in estimating how much to spend in designing and furnishing your home? It may sound a little weird, but it can give you a starting budget to work on and refine further as you get more clarity on the scope of work and specification.

This method of budgeting for a home interior design project is widely used by professionals, especially for newly purchased homes. The reason this approach is popular among homeowners and professionals is because it helps calculate preliminary interior design budget.

And when you have this starting budget on the table, you can easily work with your interior designer and plan all the expenses.

As a basic calculation, you can consider anything between 12-15% of the value as the starting budget for interior designing and furnishing. You can further increase your by 2-3% of your house value in case you are looking for a premium and luxury finish.

For instance, if you estimate the value of your house at Rs. 70 lacs then you should have a budget of anywhere between Rs. 8.5 to 10.5 lacs for interior designing and furnishing. You can start planning your interior design project with this starting budget in mind and then as you refine the scope of work and choose the material specifications, you can further tweak and adjust your project budget.

Calculating interior design costs at per sq ft rates

Although per square feet cost for interior designing services may vary for different projects, it’s one of the best ways to calculate initial project budget. We at Houseyog, often use this approach of calculating the initial interior design cost and expenses. Based on this initial budget, we relook at everything. That is, we sit and discuss with the client and rainstorm various ideas, materials and finishes. Then, we finalize the scope of work and ensure that the client gets the best materials and finish without stretching the budget.

As a basic rule of thumb, you can calculate per square feet interior design cost using the carpet area of the flat. For instance, if you have a 3 flat of 1000 sq ft carpet area, and you are looking for good quality standard fittings, materials and finish then the cost may be anywhere between Rs. 1200 to 1500 per square feet. So, the interior design cost for a 1000 sq ft carpet area flat can be anywhere between Rs 12-15 lakh. Considering there are 3 bedrooms, a kitchen and a living and dining area.

With this initial budget, you can plan for good quality carpentry job. Carpentry involves in kitchen, bedrooms and all other areas. Like a modular kitchen, box bed, head board, Cupboards, TV cabinets, study table, sofa, dining table, chair etc. And false ceiling, lighting, paintings and wallpaper on accent walls in a 3 BHK flat.

Further refine and adjust the budget

Now that you have a starting budget for your home interior design project, you can further refine it as per your affordability. For instance, if you have the funds ready and you think you can go a little higher than 1500/ sq ft, then you can go for more superior and luxurious products like quartz tops on the dining table, stone/tile cladding on the walls and so on.

However, if Rs. 1200 seems like too expensive, then you can bring per square feet cost further down by adjusting the work area and changing some of the material specifications. For instance, instead of premium quality plywood across the flat, you can use ISI marked standard commercial plywood in some of the areas. Like a TV unit, center table etc and per square feet design cost will naturally come down.

You can also bring the per sq feet rate down by using standard fittings in less frequently used areas. However, we do not recommend compromising on the hardware fittings. As the fittings must be hardy and durable, especially for extensively used areas like kitchen, cupboards etc.

Budgeting for other furnishing expenses

Even though you have considered the major costs and expenses there will be many other furnishing expenses. For instance, carpentry, false ceiling, ceiling lights, paints and wallpaper etc is already considered, What about designer blinds, corian top dining table, bespoke armchairs etc?

We call it the contingency fund. The contingency fund can be used cover any unplanned expenses that may come during the interior designing process. Many times, you change the budget while selecting the materials, and hence this fund.

For instance:

  • Dining armchairs
  • Floor light and chandeliers
  • Main door security cameras and automation system
  • Decorative elements e.g. vases, figurine, portraits, paintings etc
  • Minor civil and plumbing jobs or alterations
  • Curtains and blinds etc in bedrooms, balcony and other applicable areas
  • Rugs and carpets for the living/dining space and may be bedrooms

As these items are highly subjected to individual customers preferences, it’s better to keep them separate. Consider anywhere between 1-2% of the total preliminary budget to cover these expenses.

Above and on top, you have to consider the other optional expenses. For instance, new appliances and utilities like Air conditioner, Fans, Kitchen chimney, cooking hobs, microwave etc.

Over to you

Estimating the costs and expenses for a home interior designing project can be overwhelming. Guess work usually does not work. Wondering about the cost for a 3 BHK flat interior design in Kolkata? A 3 BHK flat interior design cost using standard quality materials can be anywhere between Rs. 6 lacs to 9 lacs. If you want the premium quality finish then the cost to decorate a 3 BHK apartment can range between Rs. 9 lacs to 12 lacs. Similarly, if you want the super luxurious finish then 3 BHK interior design can cost between Rs. 12 lacs to 16 lacs.

However, the apartment interior design costs are not absolute. The cost and budget of interior decorating depends on several factors. The five major factors that may affect the cost of a 3 BHK apartment interior design in Kolkata are:

  • The work area of the flat
  • Actual scope of work
  • Price range and quality of materials being used
  • Overall finish and craftsmanship of the contractor
  • Associated overhead

If you are planning for interior designing of a 3 BHK flat in Kolkata, and you are unsure about how much it may cost, then continue reading. Today I am sharing everything you should know about a 3 BHK flat interior design costs in Kolkata. And not just that, after reading this post, you will be able to tweak your budget for a 3 bedroom apartment interior design and decoration.

Decoding the cost of 3 BHK apartment interior design in Kolkata

Irrespective of whether you are designing a small office or you are decorating your home, it involves several tasks. Although the majority of the work involves carpentry, there may be ceiling, flooring, some civil and electrical work, painting, furnishing and so on. And therefore, it’s not easy to estimate the cost of the project without freezing the scope of work.

Being a leading architectural and interior designer in Kolkata, every month, we interact with hundreds of homeowners like you. You will be amazed to know that more than 70% of the homeowners ask us about the tentative cost of interior designing for a 2/3/4 BHK flat in Kolkata.

Usually the interior design cost for an apartment depends on several factors. Even the seasonal interior designers and contractors can’t estimate the cost of interior designing for an apartment just like that. Interior designing and decoration is a fully customized service. And therefore total cost depends on the lifestyle, requirements, budget and scope of work.

However, the good thing is that a turnkey interior designer in Kolkata can most likely work according to your budget. For instance, if you are on a tight budget. And you want to spend a maximum of Rs. 6 lakhs for interior designing of a small 3 BHK flat, then also they can design and decorate your flat in your budget. But, if you have a decent budget and would rather want to get the super premium and luxurious design and finish then the interior design cost for the same 3 BHK flat can go well above rs. 15 lacs.

Now, if you are wondering why it is so then you must check these crucial turnkey interior design cost factors.

The work area of the flat

Same size flats can have different layouts and therefore the work area changes as per the layout of the flat. Also, sometimes the flat owners have different requirements. Like someone may want to go for a king size bed or want a queen size bed. Similarly, the size of the kitchen cabinet, entertainment zone or TV unit may change for different 3 BHK flats.

Even though the carpet area is one of the factors, the most essential factor is the work area. The size and style of different units in your bedroom, living room, kitchen etc can actually affect the overall interior design cost in your flat.

Actual scope of work

As I said, a 3 BHK apartment interior design cost can be different for different homeowners because of the scope of work and requirements. For instance, if you want false ceiling in the entire flat, then overall cost of false ceiling can range between Rs. 110 to 130 per sq ft. The cost of false ceiling includes 12 MM gypsum board, 18 gage Jindal GI channels, cables from Havells and LED light of economic brand like HYBEC. So if the total ceiling area is around 1200 sq ft, the total cost of a false ceiling with cabling and lighting itself can range between 1.3 lacs to 1.55 lacs. But, if you don’t want false ceiling, you can cut the cost by a good 1.5 lacs rupees.

However, every flat does not require a false ceiling. If you are on a budget, you may well avoid the false ceiling. Or go for the partial ceiling to save the interior design cost for your 3 BHK flat in Kolkata. The actual scope of work is a huge factor in determining the cost of interior designing for a 2/3/4 BHK flat and apartment.

Similarly, there are options of textured wall paints, wallpapers and designer wall tiles to create an accent wall or to highlight a particular wall of a room. Depending on which option you choose, the interior design cost can increase or decrease.

Price range and quality of materials being used

The process of interior designing and decorating has changed significantly over the years. Today, when it comes to materials for decorating an apartment, you have plenty of options to choose from. There are so many options and types of materials available at different price ranges.

The price range and quality of materials being used to decorate your apartment can directly affect the overall interior design cost. From switch boards and cables to plywood, laminates, veneer, wallpapers to wall tiles and wall paints – each of these materials are available at different price ranges. Which brand, quality and finish you choose can hugely impact the overall cost of interior designing.

Thankfully, when you choose the right types of materials, you can save money on your home interior designing project. And a qualified interior designer can help you in many ways as they are well aware of the material options and associated expenses of choosing those materials.

Overall finish and craftsmanship of the contractor

Among all the other factors that could affect the cost of a 3 BHK flat interior design in Kolkata, the expertise and experience of the interior contractor and their technicians is another crucial factor. When it comes to the work quality and overall finishing, it requires expert technicians and expertise comes at a little higher price.

Different interior designers and contractors in Kolkata will have different prices and that actually depends on the quality of their work. To work with high end materials like veneer in carpentry and Italian tiles in civil, per square feet labor charges are way more than working with laminates and vitrified floor tiles.

It makes sense to hire the best experienced teams and technicians for all the work. The craftsmanship is what will remain visible and the best and expert technicians produce the best quality finish and that’s totally worth it.

Interior design project overheads and expenses

Sometimes there are additional overheads and expenses which can affect the cost of a 3 BHK interior design project. For instance, if your project is located at the far end, like the New Town area in Kolkata and your complex does not allow work after 6 pm then the labour charges may be a little higher.

Similarly, if your residential society or complex has rules where they do not allow you to accommodate labour working on your project, then that can also add up to the overall flat interior design cost. Wondering why? Because when the carpentry team can stay inside the premises, they get extra hours to work, and can save on commute time and accommodation expenses. This may not be a huge and substantial cost, such circumstances can definitely increase the overall cost of apartment Interior design projects marginally.

Final thoughts on apartment interior design cost in Kolkata

A standard size 3 BHK flat interior design cost in Kolkata may vary. As, it depends on several factors like the workable area and size of different units, scope of work, quality and range of materials being used and the expertise of the interior designers and contractor.

Although these factors can affect the overall interior design cost, the interior designers and contractors can help you plan, design and decorate your apartment within your budget. The interior designing projects are usually undertaken as per the requirement, preference and budget of the homeowner.

And therefore no matter whether you are after a standard quality finish or whether you are looking for the super premium and luxurious interior design work for your apartment, an experienced interior designer can help design your space as per your needs and budget on turnkey basis.
